The Night Shifts Episode Four

Dr Nath’s wife has always thought she has a perfect grip on her husband. She has always considered him her puppet. She has always seen herself as the perfect puppeteer who is able to manipulate her husband to do her biddings even when he doesn’t want to. It is worth noting that Binta has successfully manipulated her husband for many years without him being able to challenge her. She controlled everything, even what the man wore on his body and who he talks to. Dr Nath was just like a house boy who does the bidding of Binta, her madam. But she was shocked that morning when Dr Nath challenged her and told her to back off or face his wrath. She was taken aback and it took her a while before she found the voice to reply.

“Are you drunk? Did you take something when you were coming home? Did you branch somewhere to smoke? Have you forgotten who you are talking to? I’m Binta, the super woman and your wife. Are you not afraid of me anymore? Have you lost your senses? If you have lost your senses, I can help you to reset it for you.” Binta said.

“Tell that to the birds. I’m not afraid of you. You can cage a bird for many years, but one day, that bird will find the courage to tear the cage and fly away to freedom. I have broken the cage you used to hold me and I’m now a free man. If you dare me in my own house, I will put you were you belong.” Dr Nath responded aggressively. Binta was increasingly becoming afraid, but she pressed on. She was thinking maybe the method she was using has some errors and she wanted to try something else. She raised her right hand to slap Dr Nath.

“You are speaking as if you don’t know what I can do to you. Have you forgotten how bad it is to cross my path? Trying to challenge me and regain your freedom is a total mistake and I will make sure you learn a bitter lesson today. I don’t know who is giving you that courage but whoever it is has failed. You need to go back to that person to get more power because the one you currently possess is not enough. I will now show you that I’m the one in charge of this house. I’m the wife you married and I will now use my hand to reset your head so that you will come back to your normal self and do my bidding.” Binta said as she raised her hand to land her husband a hot slap.

“Hold it right there.” Dr Nath said as he raised his right hand and grabbed his wife’s hand and stopped her from slapping him. Her hand was caught in the air. Her husband’s tight grip was strong and she could feel the strength of a man.

“Leave my hand right now. Your hand is painful. Let me go right now!” Binta said to her husband. She started weeping like a child.

“Let this be the last time you will ever challenge my authority in this house. Let today be the last time you will ever raise your hand to touch me. If you ever try it again, I will serve you a hot plate of soup which you will not be able to finish in your lifetime. Now, get out of my sight.” Dr Nath said to his wife who ran into her room with tears in her eyes.

“I did it! I scared her away! I did it! I did it! I did it! Wow! It worked! I never knew this day would come when I will be able to regain my confidence in my house as a man. This is a dream come true for me. Look at my wife who used to torment me leaving my presence in fear. This has never happened. Before now, I was the one who used to run away from her sight, but she is now the one running away from me. Are we not serving a living God? Is our God not wonderful and marvelous? Today is one of the happiest days of my life.” Dr Nath said loudly. He picked up his phone and called Chi Chi to tell her about the good news.

“Helo Chi Chi, I just want to thank you for helping me to confront my fears. The lesson you taught me was wonderful. I implemented it and it worked wonders for me. Could you believe that my wife was not able to torment me the way she used to? Could you believe that she ran away from my sight after I told her to disappear? I think it was God who sent you to rescue me from the chain my wife was using to hold me. I will forever be grateful to you.” Dr Nath said excitedly. He was so happy that he could not even control his voice.

“I told you it would work. You are the man of the house. You should not allow your wife to walk on your head and turn you into the house boy. You are her husband and you owe it to yourself to protect your dignity and self-respect as a man. You should never see yourself in a negative light again. Stop pandering to your wife’s whims and caprices and she will stop treating you as her slave. You are good man and no one should mistreat you.” Chi Chi responded.

“I will come to see you at the hospital in the evening. There is another thing I want you to do so that you will regain a full control of power in your house. But I will let you know when I come to the hospital in the evening. Are you ready for another night shift?” Chi Chi asked doctor Nath with a smile.

“I can’t wait to see you. Whatever you say I should, I will do.” Dr Nath said.
