The Night Shift Episode Three

So far so good, Dr Nath has no reason to regret spending a night at the hospital with Chi Chi. He has never had it so good. It could best be described as a sweet night packed with a lot of goodies which he has never received before. However, there is still one more package for Dr Nath and Chi Chi was about to give him the best gift of the night.

Chi Chi grabbed Dr Nath’s hand and led him to the hospital bed gently. Dr Nath followed her without hesitation. He did not resist neither did he ask where they were going. He could see clearly that the road led to the soft hospital bed which was meant for patients. But Chi Chi wanted them to use it for a different kind of treatment that night.

When they got to the bed, Chi Chi gently looked Dr Nath straight into the eyes in a way that told him what she wanted. It has been long Dr Nath experienced such a thing, but he clearly understood. For many years, his wife, Binta, never allowed him to enjoy bedroom food with her. She always insisted she doesn’t want to get pregnant again. Since they stopped bearing children, Dr Nath never ate bedroom food with her again. He has been starved of the vital nutrition.

So that night when he saw bedroom food, he rushed it with a lot of hunger in his belly. He did not wait too long to feed himself after Chi Chi gave him access to her golden plate.

“Dr please treat me, I’m your patient tonight. I have been sick for a long time and I’m aware you are a well-trained doctor. My heart has been longing to receive medical treatment from you ever since I set my eyes on you in the afternoon. Please, give me some medication so that I will be well again. I’m your patient tonight.” Chi Chi said. Dr Nath clearly understood what she was saying even thought she was speaking in a coded language.

“I have all the medications you want and I will treat you properly. I accept you as my favorite patient and I will always be here to give you the right medicine. Please, stay right there and don’t move. I will do whatever you want to make you feel good again.” Dr Nath responded.

“Thank you doctor.” Chi Chi said. It was not long before Dr Nath completed the treatment. Chi Chi understood why he wasted no time at all and she did not judge him.

“I know you will do better as time goes on.” Chi Chi tells Dr Nath and he nodded his head. Both of them slept like babies.

In the morning, as soon as the wall clock in the hospital ward chimed 5am, Chi Chi left the hospital with a promise to return same time in the evening to see Dr Nath.

“Please, don’t fail to come. I like staying with you and I don’t ever want to lose you. I want to always be by your side.” Dr Nath said.

“I promise to always be by your side. But there are many things you must do so that you will regain your confidence as man. First, you must start seeing yourself in a positive light. Do not allow your wife to intimidate you. I want you to wear those clothes I bought for and go home with them. If she asks you who bought them for you, tell her you bought them yourself. Also, the phone I bought for you, I want you to take it home and flaunt it in the front of your wife. She will not do anything to you. If she asks you, tell her she has no right to question you. Remind her you were the one who paid her bride price and that she is answerable to you and not the other way round. Try it and you will see. Your wife will start to respect you little by little. There are many other things we will do, but let us start from here.” Chi Chi said as she leaves the hospital. Dr Nath agreed to try the things Chi Chi told him.

As soon as Chi Chi left and went to her workplace, Dr Nath also left the hospital and went home. He looked so good when he got home that his wife rushed to ask him where he was coming from.

“Did you attend a night club? Why are you looking so neat? Who gave you those clothes? Who bought a new shoe for you? I do not remember giving you money to buy things like these. Did you steal my money?” Binta asked her husband. Dr Nath became scared. It was like Binta used charm to hold his tongue. He wanted to say those things Chi Chi told him to say, but he could not remember antything. It was just as if his brain has been formatted. Just then, his phone rang. It was Chi Chi.

“Hi Dr Nath. How are you? Have reached home? Did your wife ask you any questions?” Chi Chi asked. Dr Nath kept mute because he did not want to speak to a woman in the presence of his wife. But after Chi Chi kept asking, he decided to talk in a coded language.

“Alright! Is it the patient in ward 10? I have given her some medication.” Dr Nath responded to Chi Chi who quickly understood that Dr Nath was under pressure.

“It’s like you are standing before your wife right now. Tell her you are the man of the house. Tell her never to question your decisions. Tell her you bought the clothes with your money. Tell her the phone belongs to you. Say those things and she will back off.” Chi Chi said almost as if she was instructing a child in nursery school.

“Okay! Thanks!” Dr Nath responded.

“Who were you talking to? And who gave you an iPhone? I was also asking who bought you shoes and new clothes? You should better start talking before I start dealing with you.” Binta tells her husband with a frowned face.

“I’m your husband. I’m the man of the house. I was the one who paid your bride price. I’m the head of this family and I’m the one working for this money. You have no rights to question my decisions. How dare you ask me who bought me clothes? How dare you ask me who bought me a phone? If you dare question my authority in this house again, I will teach you a lesson. I will show you pepper. I will show you the difference between egbe and egbe. Will you get out of my sight right now before I give you back hand.” Dr Nath shouted at his wife. His heart was beating ‘kakpin kakpin kakpim’ as he waited for his wife’s response.
