Teen Girl Poisons Ex-Boyfriend’s Pepper Soup for Revenge, Accidentally Kills Five

A 16-year-old girl named Aisha Suleiman has been detained by the Edo State Police Command for allegedly poisoning her ex-boyfriend, Emmanuel, and accidentally causing the deaths of four other young men in Afashio, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.

The incident was discovered on October 26, 2024, when Emmanuel's father, Mr. Elogie Ezekiel, visited his son’s residence around 6:30 a.m. and found several bodies. He first encountered the lifeless body of a young man, Nurudeen, in the corridor, and, upon entering the bedroom, found Emmanuel, 19, and his girlfriend, Ada Samuel, 16, unresponsive on the bed. Two brothers, Samuel and Jeffrey Ayegwalo, were also found unconscious in the living room.

All five individuals were rushed to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival. According to local sources, the group had just eaten pepper soup prepared by Suleiman.

Three days later, as community members prepared to lynch Suleiman in retaliation, police from the Jattu Division intervened and took her into custody. The case was subsequently handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough probe, per Police Public Relations Officer SP Moses Yamu.

Commissioner of Police CP Umoru Ozigi has called for a full investigation into the cause of the deaths and has urged the community to avoid mob actions, ensuring that justice will be diligently pursued.
