Nigerian Representative Alex Ikwechegh, who allegedly assaulted an Abuja Bolt driver, is set to be arraigned today at noon in Kuje Magistrate Court.

The case, involving Ikwechegh—an Abia State lawmaker for Aba North and South—is being handled by the Inspector General of Police’s Special Investigation Unit. The assault incident, captured in a viral video, reportedly occurred on October 27 when Bolt driver Stephen Abuwatseya delivered a package to Ikwechegh at a Maitama residence.

Public backlash has been intense, with many condemning the lawmaker’s actions. In response, Ikwechegh issued an apology, pledged to cooperate with the investigation, and shared that he is seeking counseling.

Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju stated, “We are heading to Kuje Magistrate Court for the arraignment of the honorable member who assaulted our client, Mr. Steven, a Bolt driver. The IGP’s Special Investigation Unit is managing the investigation and prosecution. Media coverage is welcomed at the arraignment, scheduled for 12 pm.”
